The Washington County Commissioners held their weekly meeting on July 18 with a short agenda of mostly housekeeping items to continue preparing for the new Fiscal Year.

Reports from the Washington County Sheriff’s office stated that the inmate population is up due to a recent rash of crimes in the county and the Sheriff’s office is expecting the increase to continue as inflation and heat cause inappropriate decisions by some people.

Depository reports from the Sheriff’s office and Assessor’s Office were given and approved. Two lease agreements were acknowledged and approved for County Public Facilities and the County Election Board. The election board also provide a fixed assets inventory that was approved.

Approval was given to a service agreement between the Washington County Health Department and NextCare Oklahoma LLC for two chest x-ray machines. The lease is valued at $3600 and will last for one year.

Finally, there was brief discussion about a discrepancy between the County’s listing of buildings that are insured compared the list provided by the State Inspector. The discrepancy is apparently due to how buildings are counted. The State counts foundations while the County counts rooflines. The Commissioners will meet with the State Inspection office to discuss the discrepancy because the new totals would significantly increase the insurance premiums held by Washington County.
