Big Steps Forward for Bruin Football

Bartlesville High had its final football game of the 2022 season on Friday night, as Stillwater ran away with the Bruins second round playoff bout.

Pioneers topped BHS 56-0 in a District rematch from Pioneer Stadium. Stillwater moves on to face Deer Creek in the 6A-II semifinals this weekend.

Despite the lopsided result, there is no question that this season of Bruin football will be considered a success by most.

BHS improved its win total from two to five. Bartlesville qualified for the expanded playoffs as the 5-seed out of six. And won its first playoff game since the historic 2015 season.

After the contest head coach Harry Wright says his program has improved, but it is not done yet.

Bartlesville will graduate 12 seniors off the roster, however nearly 70-percent of its starters will return next season. That percentage jumps quite a bit when looking at offensive production. About 88-percent of the Bruins offensive yards were produced by sophomores or juniors.

Notably running back PJ Wallace, wide receiver Damien Niko, quarterback Nate Neal and tail back Austin Zink will all return next season.

We will have more wrapping up the 2022 BHS football season throughout this week.
