Bartlesville High girls and guys both won their second-round games in the ConocoPhillips Arvest Invitational on Friday, which will set up a fun championship Saturday for both teams.

The BHS girls knocked off 5A No. 6 Memorial, 51-45.

KK Duncan was the hero, scoring 17 points as the only Bruin in double-figures. Bartlesville lead wire-to-wire in the second half after trailing early.

Bruin girls will face Southmoore in the 5th place game at 10:00 on Saturday morning on Sports Talk 1500 AM – 99.1 FM – KPGM.

Meanwhile the Bruin guys escaped a slow-shooting start to beat Southmoore 62-54 in the winner’s bracket semis.

BHS used a big second quarter to erase a 10-point deficit and take the lead at halftime. The Bruins wouldn’t look back.  Despite leading throughout, the Sabercats wouldn’t go away.

BHS needed this breakaway bucket to go up eight before the 3rd quarter buzzer.

After the game, sophomore guard David Castillo said the biggest difference in the final few quarters was the Bruins ability to stop the Sabercats defensively. BHS had several breakaway opportunities off steals.

Castillo says defense can lead to offense.

Bartlesville will face Booker T. Washington for the COP-Arvest title at 5:30 PM on KWON – AM 1400, FM 93.3, 95.1 with both games available to watch on KWONTV.com.
