Corps Says Little Caney Not Suitable for Water Source

The status of the Little Caney River has been changed; that's according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Caney, Kan., City Administrator Kelley Zellner says the Little Caney River is not viewed as full river status by the Corps, using this example from the agency.
As Caney looks to heal their water system, Zellner says discussions continue with the city of Coffeyville, and talks have begun with a possible regional water system and upgrade with Montgomery County Rural Water District #1. Zellner says that would benefit more than just Caney residents.
Zellner says he has been told by multiple state agencies that aid is not possible because the current water plant cannot stay in compliance. State and federal grant funding will be available, however, if an agreement is reached — either with the city of Coffeyville or RWD #1.
