U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who came under scrutiny for the agency's failure to prevent the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has resigned.

Cheatle had faced calls to step down since the shooting at a Trump rally on July 13, which left one attendee dead and two others critically injured.

US Senator James Lanford said he was not surprised, but it should have happened sooner.

US Congressman Josh Brecheen said that with Cheatle's resignation, we need to move into a place of procedures and personnel.

On Monday, Congressman Brecheen and several members of the House Homeland Security Committee participated in a bipartisan visit to Butler, Pennsylvania—the site of the assassination attempt of President Trump.
