Bruin Baseball Knocks off Bixby

It was the biggest win of the season for Bartlesville High baseball on Monday night, as the Bruins knocked off Bixby at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

BHS outlasted the Spartans 2-1 at Rigdon Field behind a complete-game winner from sophomore DJ Thornton.

Thornton went the full seven innings. He gave up one unearned run on three hits. He struck out three and walked only one.

Here is how the final call sounded on KWON.

The Bruins out-played Bixby most of the evening. Bartlesville had six hits, all coming in the fourth fifth and sixth innings. BHS finally broke through in the fifth.

The game-tying run came off a single from another Sophomore, Luke Massey.

Six different Bruins had single hits. Sam Hill was the only one with an extra base knock, he tripled in the fourth.

Timely defense also helped Bartlesville. The Bruins got a big double-play to end a Bixby threat in the top of the fourth, which also began with Luke Massey.

The best outing of Thornton’s young career gives Bartlesville its best win of the season. Bixby had lost only three District games and is in the hunt for a Regional hosting spot.

BHS will go for the sweep on Tuesday evening at Bixby. A 6:00 first pitch and another game we will have on KWON and KWONTV.com.
