Bruin Football Falls in Opener

Bartlesville High football lost a heart breaker at home to Claremore on Friday night.

A late missed PAT would doom BHS. The Zebras came away from Custer Stadium with a 28-27 victory, snapping a three-game losing skid in the series.

A Claremore touchdown with 36 seconds remaining sealed the deal.

Bartlesville put itself in a bad spot early. Claremore would lead 14-0 and 21-7 following short field and defensive touchdowns from the Zebras.

However, the Bruins would not go down easy. BHS reeled off 20 unanswered points to take the lead 27-21 with 4:06 left in the game. Bartlesville set it with two plays from new players to the offense.

This one came on a Brett Eaves pass to Damien Niko, which gave Bartlesville some life.

Eaves played the entire second half at QB after Nate Neal came out of the game with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

Meanwhile the Bruins new backup running back, Stefen Williams, came in and gave BHS a shot in the arm, as well.

PJ Wallace finished with 33 carries and 192 yards, unofficially. Wallace and Williams shared our Patriot Player of the Game honors. Williams had eight carries for 89 yards.

Bartlesville starts at 0-1 for the first time since 2019.

The Bruins will host Sapulpa next week at Custer Stadium.
