Bullpups Look to Keep the Streak Alive in Cherryvale

The Caney Valley Bullpups and Lady Bullpups hit the road Tuesday night for a matchup with Cherryvale, and both teams arrive with some momentum. The Cherryvale boys are 8-9 on the season and riding a two-game winning streak, but they’ll have to deal with a red-hot Caney Valley squad. The Bullpups are 13-5 and have won four straight, including a dominant 85-42 win over Humboldt. Caney Valley also handled Cherryvale earlier this season at home, 65-34, so they’ll be looking for a repeat performance, this time in a tougher road environment against a team playing with a little more confidence.

The girls’ game has the look of the tighter matchup. The Lady Bullpups are also 13-5 and have strung together a couple of wins, although their most recent outing was a closer-than-expected 42-37 victory over Humboldt. They did beat Cherryvale earlier this season by six points at home, but that margin suggests this one could go either way.

Cherryvale’s girls come into Tuesday’s contest on a five-game winning streak, so the Lady Bullpups will be facing a team that’s found its rhythm at the right time. With both Caney Valley squads carrying winning streaks of their own, Tuesday night sets up as a solid road test, especially in the girls’ game where a few possessions could make all the difference.
