Caney Valley Tournament Finals Set

The championship games are set in the 33rd annual Caney Valley Tournament after an action-packed semifinal Thursday.


On the girl's side, the Dewey Lady Bulldoggers held off the Cleveland Lady Tigers, 44-35. The Caney Valley Lady Trojans rolled over the Caney Valley Lady Bullpups, 65-37.


Harper Watts led the way for the Lady Trojans. This five-point swing to open the second half from Watts helped the cause for Caney Valley.


The Lady Trojans and Lady Bulldoggers will meet each other for the third time this season at 4 p.m. on Friday. Coverage can be heard on 104.9 - KRIG.

 

The Lady Bullpups will play Cleveland for third place at 1 p.m.


On the boy's side, Dewey squeaked by Cleveland, 51-45 in overtime. Cleveland hit a three-pointer in the final 12 seconds to send the game to overtime. Dewey controlled the final four minutes to advance.


On the other side, Riverfield rolled past the Caney Valley Bullpups, 70-31. The Ravens led 17-4 after the first quarter and 38-11 at halftime.


This shifty bucket from Layne Denny in the first quarter helped stop a Riverfield run.


The Ravens and Bulldoggers will face off in the championship game at 5:30 on Friday evening. Coverage of the boys championship can be heard on 104.9 - KRIG.


Cleveland and Caney Valley (KS) will meet for third place at 2:30 p.m.


In other games, on the girl's side, Riverfield advanced to the fifth place game with a win over Foyil. They will meet Barnsdall at 10 a.m. Barnsdall beat Liberty. Foyil and Liberty will meet for seventh place at 10 a.m.


On the guy's side, the Caney Valley Trojans beat Foyil to advance to the fifth place game at 11:30 a.m. against Liberty. Liberty beat Barnsdall. Barnsdall will meet Foyil for seventh place at 11:30 a.m.
