Copan Football Moves Classifications

Still going with some spring football across Northeast Oklahoma, as teams are in their final day of spring practice for most high school teams in the area on Friday.

At Copan, things are more optimistic than they’ve been in a long time. The Hornets enter 2024 with some higher expectations. Copan went 5-6 a season ago with its first playoff appearance in more than a decade. The Hornets will return most every starter off last year’s team.

Copan was one of the teams across our area that was moved classifications because of the late changes to average daily enrollment from the OSSAA a few weeks ago. The Hornets will be in the lower Class B classification this fall, moving up from Class C. Class B is split into a bigger Class B-I and smaller B-II this year.

Head coach Marshall Foreman talks about the change.

The classification change does keep Copan in the same District as Wesleyan Christian School. The Mustangs were already slated to move up from Class C prior to the changes. Copan getting elevated assured the two will continue to play each other.

Foreman talks a bit about his team’s schedule.

Copan faces some new teams, as well - in Midway, Porum, Webber’s Falls and Arkoma. Returning quarterback Kane Foreman along with Shooter Brewington and Weston O’Rourke headline the guys that are back.

Foreman says about 25 guys have been out for spring practice.
