Dewey Hoops Sweeps Caney Bullpups

Dewey basketball swept a doubleheader against the Caney Valley Bullpups on Tuesday night in Caney, Kan.
 
The Lady Bulldoggers got the night started with a convincing 60-48 win, the Bulldoggers won a nailbiter, 65-62.
 
In the girl's game, the Lady Bulldoggers struggled to get going offensively early. Dewey scored just seven points in the first quarter before getting hot from the outside. They led by four at halftime, 26-22.
 
Dewey turned a four point lead into a 20-point cushion in the second half to put the game away. This three-pointer from Adrianna Hicks added on to a big third quarter.
 
The Lady Bulldoggers with the win will close out the regular season with an overall record of 18-9.
 
In the boy's game, Dewey controlled the pace for most of the night. The Bulldoggers held a double-digit lead many times. This three-pointer from Zach Renfroe put Dewey up 11 early in the fourth.
 
The Bullpups weren't done yet, Caney Valley staged a comeback in the final frame and got as close as one point in the final 10 seconds. That came on this three-pointer from Brayden Messner.
 
The Bulldoggers held on to complete the sweep and finish the regular season 22-2 overall.
 
Both Dewey clubs are back in action on Friday for the first round of the 3A playoffs against Sequoyah (Claremore) in Dewey. The Lady Bulldoggers will get the night started at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow around 7:30 p.m.
