Hulah Lake Hosts Annual Noodling Tournament

If your weekend plans somehow didn’t already involve sticking your arm into a muddy hole and hoping a giant catfish doesn’t bite it off, good news: the 9th Annual Hulah Lake Noodling Tournament is back June 13 at Wah-Sha-She Park near Copan. The event, hosted by the Hulah Lake Osage Association, will feature three-person teams competing for cash prizes, bragging rights, and probably a tetanus shot or two. Noodling officially starts at daylight on June 12, with weigh-ins scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. on June 13. Officials warn if teams are not in line by 6 p.m., their fish will not be weighed. Seems catfish tournaments have stricter deadlines than Congress.
Teams can enter for $100, with a separate $50 big fish pot paying out 100 percent to the winner. Registration was due by June 6, although late registration remained open through June 10 with an extra $50 fee attached, because procrastination should absolutely cost you if your hobby involves underwater fistfights with fish. Organizers will also celebrate Hulah Lake’s 75th birthday during the event, proving the lake has spent three-quarters of a century quietly watching Oklahomans invent increasingly questionable outdoor activities. Participants and sponsors can contact tournament organizers directly for more information.
