Nowata Track and Field Building on Growth

Nowata track and field is in full force this spring behind a young team on both the boy's and girl's sides.

The Ironmen are relying heavily on the track moreso than the field this season with lots of growth especially in the relay department. On the boy's side, head coach Tim Farris talks about Asiah Saxton and Tristan McBride.

In last year's 2A state meet, McBride missed the finals of the 110-meter hurdles by 0.1 seconds, finishing ninth in the preliminary rounds. He finished 11th in the prelims in the 300-meter hurdles, roughly 0.5 seconds from a spot in the finals.

At Oklahoma Union's meet last week, McBride and Saxton finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 100-meter dash.

On the girl's side, it's the youth leading the way with sophomore Emersyn McGee. Farris talks about McGee's growth since running in junior high.

In last Thursday's meet at OKU, McGee finished fifth in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. She finished sixth in the 400-meter dash.

Nowata's next meet will be in Commerce.
