Panthers Get Back to Work This Summer
As high school football teams were in the middle of spring practice, that was the last thing on the minds of Barnsdall Coach Kylee Sweeney and his players.
It has been a little over a month since a strong EF-4 tornado ripped through town and Sweeney says there are still times that they are trying to process what happened.
He also talks about how his group responded in the aftermath of the storm.
Sweeney opened Barnsdall’s athletic facilities to a ministry group who stayed for a few weeks to help with the cleanup process. That group has since left, and the Panthers have begun participating in summer pride workouts along with the summer passing league in Pawhuska.
Sweeney says the Panthers need every rep they can get, because they will be moving up to 11-man football again this year after some re-classifications.
Sweeney says feels like it will be a smooth transition back up to 11-man.
The Panthers have been in the eight-man ranks since 2020. Barnsdall was 11-man as recently as 2019, including its 2019 run to the Class A quarterfinals.
Barnsdall will be at Pawhuska's passing league each Tuesday throughout the summer. That starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.
We will have more on Barnsdall offseason football, including the Panther’s switch up to 11-man this fall, later this month.
